COMMERCE AS
COMMUNION

EVENT | CONVERSATION

Gender & Power | Identity & Representation | Storytelling | Creativity & Innovation

Client: Sundial Brands

As the closing activation of the Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture brand relaunch with Sephora, my partner and I co-designed The Art of the Self-Made Woman — a pop-up salon that served as an immersive environment rather than a traditional event. This activation didn't just tell Walker's story; it embodied it in community form, as women lay bare the stories that had informed their own Madam moments in front of each other and a live audience.

Alongside women-owned vendors, wellness offerings, and on-the-spot hairstyling with the Madam Beauty Culture line, the salon culminated in a capstone panel I produced and moderated with Modern Day Madams alumnae.

The event became a living embodiment of Walker’s archetype: women encountering themselves and one another in shared defiance, creativity, and enterprise. For attendees, it offered both inspiration and tangible entry points — merging legacy with lived, embodied commerce.

THE DAYLONG IMMERSION

THE ROOM IN MOTION

Breath and body anchored the room—guided meditation and yoga as part of the build,
